GROSOVO PROJECT:

Grosovo is an orphanage in the south of the country close to the city of Slutzk. CODP, which was previously named Chernobyl Aid Ireland Dublin (CAID), was once affiliated to Chernobyl Aid Ireland, a Waterford-based group which works exclusively with Grosovo orphanage.

Tom McEnaney, the founder of CODP, was one of the very first Irish people to work at Grosovo, having first visited the institution in 1996, on the tenth anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. Tom began by renovating a room used for arts and crafts, which was mainly devoted to making model airplanes. In subsequent years he continued to support that project by bring materials, engines and tools from Ireland.
CAID went on put in new beds, and furniture at Grosovo, to renovate a farm which was wracked by blight, collorado beetle and poor equipment, and to bring Santa Claus to Grosovo for the first time. After a few years working at Grosovo, CAID went its own way, taking on its own orphanage (Dyatlovo) and changing its name to CODP
